Can We Help Our Adult Daughter Out of An Abusive Relationship?
What do you do when your adult daughter is struggling with an abusive relationship but has chosen to stay? We'll talk about this and a whole lot more on this week's podcast, Can We Help Our Adult Daughter Out of An Abusive Relationship?
Today we’re hearing from Luanne of Louisville Kentucky and Luanne writes:
My 30 year old daughter, is in an emotionally abusive relationship and lives in another state. Over the last 10 months we have been made aware by her sister and close friends that she is in an unhealthy relationship. She has even opened up to us a little and expressed the same thing. She eventually asked her dad to come and help end the relationship. After he traveled there and prepared himself, by talking to domestic abuse professionals and local police, when he arrived, she asked to talk to her boyfriend alone. My husband said she seemed strong and prepared to end the relationship and wanted to talk to the boyfriend alone first. But within an hour she had completely changed her mind, he somehow talked her out of it. And she asked her dad to leave.
It has been 3 months since her dad was there and we have heard from her twice, with the conversation being about work, weather, and her dog. She doesn't communicate with her sister anymore, who was her major confidante. Living out of state and not being able to check on her and the only communication is the phone, we don't know what is going on. We are at our ropes end in what to do. This is not the daughter we have known all our lives. This is not the daughter I have talked to every day for the last 30 years. We are hurting. How can we rescue her when she acts like there is nothing wrong?
In this episode, Neil along with his cohost Robin respond to the mom's concerns and answer the question - how do you help someone who needs help and yet won’t accept it?
