A Crisis With Your Teen? Maybe It’s An Opportunity!

What do you do when you discover your high school senior has not been going to his classes and instead, has been putting all his energy into gaming?

Today we are hearing from Kaylin of Eastern Connecticut. Kaylin writes:

Dear Neil,

I suffer from debilitating anxiety and have for 10 years since my late husband was diagnosed with sarcoma. He passed away in 2016 when our kids were 10 and 13.

My daughter has grown into a smart, independent, mostly well-adjusted adult.

This morning I was called from school that my son is failing senior year and in one course he has missed 22 sessions. I ask all the time how classes are going, and he says fine. He does not like to talk much.

My anxiety is through the roof right in trying to script out how to discuss this with him and how we can partner to get him back on track.

He's a competitive gamer/streamer/influencer and highly creative. I need him to be responsible without crushing his dreams and aspirations. Please help.

Neil addresses the multiple family issues at play including the son’s school plan, his emotional needs, and mom’s anxiety.
