This morning, I had the honor of working with a therapist in China who is stuck in an escalating power struggle between a teen and their parents. The mom is feeling the conflict and is struggling to pull back and build trust with the 14-year-old. Simple in theory and hard in practice. However, the therapist was getting stuck in the conflicting narratives, having a hard time seeing the change that was needed and struggling to connect the clients’ strengths to the actions needed for change. We all know how easy that is to get stuck and lose perspective, strategy and the voice to activate resources. When complex dynamics show up; the sooner we can see the healing direction, the sooner we can support our client in that direction.
I relish the opportunity to zoom out and collaborate on the big picture, common goal and tools to undo the power struggle. That’s why I am thrilled to announce Neil Brown master family therapist will be joining us for a guest all-star workshop.
